Autumn is here, autumn is here! But what do you actually wear in this partly unstable season? It’s already cold in the morning, the windows are already partly fogging up, while it gets summery warm at midday. Our Bergzeit experts will tell you here what their favorite pieces for autumn are and what they particularly value in outdoor clothing for the transition period.
Lisa’s recommendation: Maloja Women’s ChhuM. Blouse
“My absolute favourite part for autumn? A flannel shirt! Well, not just for autumn, but for the entire year. For me, there is no more practical and at the same time stylish garment than a well selected and above all high-quality flannel shirt. I wear it in the office, on the way to yoga, when biking, skiing, and hiking. It is timeless, fits over a dress as well as with leggings, can be buttoned up or worn open. As it is made of organic cotton and hemp, like Maloja’s model, It just ticks all the boxes. By the way: I already have the predecessor of the Maloja ChhuM. and after one year it still wears almost just as well as on the first day. Don it, own it, live it!
Bärbels recommendation for children: Trollkids Vest
“Autumn is a time of year for me when I never really know what to wear – let alone my boys.
Shorts, long trousers? Thin rain jacket or rather the thick winter jacket? How good that there are vests. Just put the lined Kids Narvik Vest from Trollkids (hooded – which is very practical!) over their jumpers and my boys are well prepared for the day, even in the morning when the temperatures are already below freezing. Or just put a thinner fleece vest under a rain jacket or softshell and the constant question of whether the jacket is still enough is a thing of the past!”
Danny’s recommendation: Inov-8 Trailpant Trousers
“Autumn time is trail running time! Especially when it rains, trail running is a special experience, provided of course that the clothing is right.
With the Inov-8 Trailpant Trousers, I have a pair of trousers that hardly wear like rain trousers, but more like jogging trousers. At the same time, they are waterproof, just as they should be. It is also practical, of course, that they are incredibly comfortable – in dull autumn weather I wear them as over-pants at every opportunity and can quickly stow them away when I don’t need them anymore”.
Stefan’s recommendation: Patagonia Nano Puff Hoodie
“I like to travel light – even in autumn. Whether on the mountain or in the city, a warming insulation jacket is a perfect solution. The Patagonia Nano Puff Hoodie, for example, is very light and can be packed very small. As soon as it looks like rain, I take the Bitihorn jacket from Norrona with me for all-round protection against cold and rain. The rain jacket is very minimalistic and functional. That’s why it’s clearly the perfect jacket for me, always in my backpack to be taken out in the rain.
Caroline’s recommendation: Hiking shoe Unlikely Hiker
“Old-fashioned boots in earthy tones? That was yesterday. Thank goodness modern hiking and multifunctional shoes are really quite good looking today.
Like the “Zion Mid Unlikely Hiker” by Merrell, for example. This shoe not only convinces me with its fresh design, but it also comes with all the features I could wish for in an outdoor shoe for the cold season: A waterproof membrane protects in rain and wetness, the Vibram Megagrip outsole with 5 millimeter studs ensures the best grip even on slippery surfaces. In addition, the shoe is a real lightweight at 650 grams per pair – so I don’t get heavy feet, even if I decide to be out and about for quite some time”.
Lena’s recommendation: Deuter Backpack Guide Lite
“On sunny autumn days, just like in summer, I prefer to travel with the Guide Lite 28 SL – it is a top alpine backpack, just perfect for me!
The comfort is really unbeatable. As I often go on alpine climbing tours, I need a light backpack for this. For alpine climbs and in inconsistent autumn weather I need a little more volume, so I use the 28 litre version. On days like these, I sometimes take my backpack with me for simple hikes – an additional insulation jacket, a hard shell, and a thermos flask can easily be taken along for the ride.”
Janas recommendation: Klean Kanteen Vacuum Flask
“The most beautiful thing in autumn? A little extra warmth, which I always carry with me!
In return, I take a warming tea with me, which I drink in between my daily routine or during the break on an autumn hike. This is pure relaxation for me: enjoying the golden autumn rays in the mountains while holding a hot drink that warms from the inside of my hand. I don’t like cold tea at all, so I attach great importance to a well insulating drinking bottle. The medium-sized bottle from Klean Kanteen is perfect for this. The double-walled stainless steel bottle insulates for up to 24 hours!”
